Key Information
  • Permabond ET5428 is a thixotropic 2-part epoxy adhesive, great for bonding composite materials.
  • 2-part tube that includes 1 x 24 element square mixer (more available separately).
  • Key features: easy application, rapid cure, high shear and peel strength, high temp resistance.
  • Prepare surfaces by cleaning and roughening; for certain materials it is preferable to remove the oxide layer.
  • Application involves applying to one of the substrates and then simply bonding together until cured.
Additional Information

Permabond® ET5428 is a two-part adhesive known for its thixotropic properties, making it resistant to impact and vibration. It has controlled flow characteristics and is easy to mix and apply, making it suitable for gap-filling purposes. This adhesive performs well at elevated temperatures and is designed for applications requiring high strength and toughness.

Surface Preparation Prior to Using Permabond ET5428

Before applying Permabond® ET5428 adhesive, it's crucial to ensure that the surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease. You can use a suitable solvent like acetone or isopropanol to degrease the surfaces. In the case of certain metals like aluminum, copper, and their alloys, it's recommended to lightly abrade the surfaces with emery cloth or a similar abrasive material to remove any oxide layers. This preparation will help optimize the adhesive bond.

How To Use Permabond ET5428

1) Insert the cartridge into the application gun or cartridge plunger.
2) Remove cap and dispense material until both sides are flowing out.
3) Then attach the static mixer nozzle to the end of the cartridge and dispense out until adhesive is coming out of the nozzle.
4) Apply the adhesive material to one of the substrates.
5) Join the parts together. It's essential to join the parts within the usable pot life of mixing the two epoxy components.
6) Note that large quantities and/or higher temperatures can decrease the usable pot life.
7) Apply pressure to the assembly, typically by clamping, until handling strength is achieved.
8) Full curing of the adhesive will occur after 24-48 hours at 23°C (73°F). If needed, heat can be used to accelerate the curing process.
