What is Custom Made?

Custom Made is the division behind every Loxta range, opened up to your projects. The same designers, forge and finishing lines that build Commander and Series16 take on external briefs: replicating a Georgian handle for a listed restoration, developing a 2000mm entrance pull for an architectural commission, or building a complete hardware range for another brand’s label. Because Loxta owns its manufacturing, a brief can go from sketch to delivered product without leaving our control.

Heritage Replication

Original pieces are captured by 3D scanning or measured survey, redrawn in CAD, and manufactured to match the period: Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco patterns across door handles, window furniture and cabinet hardware. The same route serves properties with an established look that off-the-shelf hardware can’t match: replacement hardware made to the pattern already on the doors, and finishes matched to the existing scheme, with patination where the project calls for age. Typical work covers Grade I and Grade II listed buildings, conservation areas and private heritage restorations, with dimensional documentation supplied for conservation records.

Architectural Bespoke

For projects where catalogue hardware won’t carry the design, Custom Made develops one-off and short-run pieces: entrance pulls from 600mm to 2000mm, feature door handles and coordinated ironmongery suites across a whole building. Start from a concept sketch, a CAD file or a reference photograph. The design team returns 3D renders for approval before anything is made, and prototypes before anything is tooled.

OEM and Brand Ranges

For brands, distributors and trade partners, Loxta manufactures complete hardware ranges under your name: modifications of existing designs or new product development, with your specification, your packaging and your branding. Custom packaging runs from retail-ready presentation to trade cartons, with brand-specific labelling and instruction materials. OEM conversations run under NDA as standard, and your designs remain yours.

The Process

Every project follows the same spine, entering wherever your brief is ready: design and 3D CAD, 2D technical drawings, FEA structural validation, 3D rendering for approval, prototyping, sampling, tooling, production, finishing, product marking, packaging and international logistics. Each stage is a service on this page, so you can commission the full turnkey path or just the stages you need. BIM models are available for architectural specifications.

Materials, Processes and Finishes

Manufacturing methods span hot forging, precision machining, investment casting and fabricated assemblies, with progressive tooling for volume runs. Materials: SS304 and marine grade SS316 stainless steel, solid brass and architectural bronze alloys, and aero grade aluminium. Finishing covers ElectroCoat+, powder coating with colour matching, electroplating in chrome, nickel, gold and antique finishes, and mechanical finishing from brushing and polishing to texturing and patination.

Made by Loxta Since 1987

Custom work runs on the same production lines as every Loxta range, from a single pair upward to full volume manufacturing, with UK design and engineering and production at our own facility. Send the brief, the sketch or the original piece, and the engineering team will come back with the route, the timeline and the quotation.

Custom Made Frequently Asked Questions

What can Custom Made manufacture?

Door handles, pull handles, window furniture, cabinet hardware and coordinated ironmongery suites, as one-off replications, short architectural runs or full OEM ranges. If it can be forged, machined, cast or fabricated in stainless steel, brass or aluminium, it is within scope; send the brief and we will confirm the route.

How does heritage replication work?

The original piece is captured by 3D scanning or measured survey, redrawn in CAD, approved as a render or prototype, then manufactured in period-appropriate materials and finishes. Dimensional documentation is supplied for conservation records on listed building work.

Can Loxta manufacture products under our brand?

Yes. OEM manufacturing covers existing design modification and new product development, made to your specification with your packaging, labelling and branding. Conversations run under NDA as standard, and tooling and designs commissioned by you remain yours.

What files can I send to start a project?

Anything from a pencil sketch or reference photograph to finished CAD. The design team works from concept sketches, dimensional specifications, existing samples or production-ready 3D models, and returns renders for approval before manufacture.

What is FEA and why is it offered?

Finite Element Analysis, a computational validation of structural integrity before anything is made. FEA identifies stress concentrations and confirms load-bearing performance, so a design is proven on screen before tooling investment is committed.

What are the minimum order quantities?

There is no fixed minimum: custom orders have run from a single pair. The practical floor depends on complexity, material and budget, since one machined pair carries different economics to a tooled production run. Tell the engineering team the quantity and the engineering team will confirm the right route and pricing.

What finishes are available on custom work?

ElectroCoat+, powder coating with custom colour matching, electroplating in chrome, nickel, gold and antique finishes, PVD on stainless steel, and mechanical finishing including brushing, polishing, texturing and patination for heritage work.

How long does a custom project take?

It varies with the route: a replication from an existing sample moves faster than a new design needing FEA and tooling. The engineering team provides a stage-by-stage timeline with the quotation, so the programme is visible before you commit.

Custom Made Service from Loxta

Elegance and excellence - engineered. As designers and manufacturers of premium architectural hardware, we have the capability to custom manufacture products specifically for your projects or your brand. We follow a 4 step process under our custom made programme:

Stage 1: Specification

At the outset, it is important for us to work up a rough specification to allow us to understand what you need to allow us to work out how we can best support you. This normally happens through a general conversation as an initial starting point, and then develops into a formal specification, potentially with some rough concepts as we move further through the process.

Stage 2: Prototyping

Once the specification has been set, we will design the product to try and closely meet your needs, using DFM & DFA principles to ensure we realise the benefit of good design during the manufacturing process. With our in-house 3D rendering capabilities and 3D printing, we are able to visually show you how the product looks and feels before we start manufacturing.

Stage 3: Manufacturing

With our in-house tooling department, we are able to include our tooling knowledge during the design process as part of our concurrent engineering process. Tooling, where required, will be manufactured and tested in accordance with the agreed design. After tooling has been completed, we will start manufacturing and finishing the product against the custom design, leaving you with an amazing product.

Stage 4: Packaging

Brand awareness is a key part of any custom made programme, especially when dealing with the high end clients that this attracts. We have a number of on-product branding options and custom packaging that suit different materials and quantity levels. Beyond that, we have the logistics chains to deliver the product safely to a number of countries across the world to ensure we deliver an end-to-end solution.
